7 things worship leaders need to stop doing.

So I came across this video on YouTube by Allen Parr (founder of The Beat) and felt like sharing with worship leaders because it will help and improve us. Seven (7) things worship leaders need to stop doing.  1. Stop making worship about you.  Worship is not about you but about God. Stop drawing attention to yourself. Avoid distraction and lead people to God.  2. Stop singing songs that are theologically inaccurate.  As worship leader, we have the opportunity to lead people into God's presence and also teach them something about God's nature. We can't afford to lead them astray by singing lyrics that are theologically inaccurate. Always know that lyrics are so powerful that people tend to remember them quickly.  3. Stop being predictable.  Be different. Be creative. Just do something different from the normal you.  4. Stop commanding people during worship. Our job as worship leaders is to lead people into God's presence and not to command them.  5. Don'

The Process 2

You may need to read my first write-up on " The Process 1 " to enable you to follow through on this.  Now for that 9 years, I served in the church as a Music Director, it was not fun as I had to deal with a lot both from both within and outside my church. I never understood what to do and so there were days I was very angry and even felt like giving up (I did sometimes). I had personal issues that were distracting me from my service, but one thing kept me going and it was the love/passion I have for what I do. See, getting to the top is not easy and will never be not even in the future. The process is what builds you up to that future you desire only that you have to go through the pains which will enable you to teach others after you've overcome. N/B: Every opportunity to serve is part of the process. If you miss it, you've missed out. In summary, there will be obstacles on your way but you don't have to quit because quitters never win and winners nev

How much of your craft do you know?

Dear Music Artiste, I'll like to share some thoughts with you. I may not be 100% right but I'm sure it will help you.  Let's start with a question, and I'll like you to be sincere in your answer.  How much do you do about your craft (music)?  If you know the answer to this question, then you're good to go. But if not, I think you should start from there. No matter the genre of music you do, you must know and understand how it works. This to an extent will make you different from others (it's not a spiritual thing, it's a simple head knowledge). If you study the Old Testament and King David's pattern of music, you'll understand better.  Don't just sing because everyone is singing, by all means, know the genre of song you're doing and why you are doing it. What do you know about that genre and how can you do it well. This should be your guide. I say this because I see a lot of us running in circles without knowing where we're go

We Move, God Amplifies

Those words dropped in my heart after my ministration some weeks back at my home church FIRSTLOVE ASSEMBLY Rumuokwuta. Trust me, there are things we don't say on stage so you may not really understand where I'm coming from (story for another day), but from experience I've discovered that God won't do anything in certain areas of our lives until we make the move and then He amplifies it.   You remember the four lepers who made a move during the famine in Elisha's time (2 Kings 7:3-8). They said "all die na die" and they made that move. On getter there they saw no one because God had amplified their steps and the enemies took off and left everything they had and this hopeless men who were ready to die had more than enough that the country of Israel benefited from it also.  I feel God does not do anything when we don't make a move because he expects us to take that bold step. I'm just here to encourage you to make that move you've alwa

The Process 1

I served in a local church for more than 20yrs, served as a music director for almost 9yrs in the same local church. I've been doing music professionally for more than 15yrs and currently I'm serving in FIRSTLOVE ASSEMBLY in the music department. In all this, I've have failed in something's i started. Some I kept pushing, others I left because I felt it wasn't worth my time or energy. I stated the above so you understand I didn't just get to where I am by the click of a switch, I've served and worked in various department not just music but as a teacher as well and also as volunteer.  N/B: There is a process to everything, and when the procedure is not followed, we will miss out of what is ahead. So be patient with yourself and follow the process to whatever dream you're pursuing. Don't start walking before you learn how to sit, don't start running before you learn how to walk. If you skip the process, you lose out of the gain. Let th
