Tips To Becoming A Good Musician

Image
Whether you've been playing your chosen instrument for years, or youre just getting started, no one is perfect and everyone can improve. So if youre hoping to take that next step towards playing like a pro, or looking for new ways to hone your skills, here are our tips to help you become a better musician. Musicianship is not something that can be measured. Sure it means you can play your instrument well but in no way means you are a musician. A musician is someone who can not only play, but someone who can understand, write, perform, and feel music. Musicians also can play with other musicians due to their knowledge and ability. A musician must be well-rounded in every aspect of music. They must also have the ability to listen. Playing over someone else or playing the wrong harmony can be catastrophic. Listening cannot be over stated. PRACTICE TECHNIQUES This may seem like an obvious one, but the point we want to make is that simply playing your instrument is necessari...

7 things worship leaders need to stop doing.

Image
So I came across this video on YouTube by Allen Parr (founder of The Beat) and felt like sharing with worship leaders because it will help and improve us. Seven (7) things worship leaders need to stop doing.  1. Stop making worship about you.  Worship is not about you but about God. Stop drawing attention to yourself. Avoid distraction and lead people to God.  2. Stop singing songs that are theologically inaccurate.  As worship leader, we have the opportunity to lead people into God's presence and also teach them something about God's nature. We can't afford to lead them astray by singing lyrics that are theologically inaccurate. Always know that lyrics are so powerful that people tend to remember them quickly.  3. Stop being predictable.  Be different. Be creative. Just do something different from the normal you.  4. Stop commanding people during worship. Our job as worship leaders is to lead people into God's presence and not to command...

True Worshipers

Image
John 4:23-24 NIV  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” After many years as a worship leader thinking that this verse of the scripture refers mostly the us as worship leaders but it became more clearing to me this morning that everyone is involved in this scripture.  We were having fellowship this morning and a brother in the meeting was leading in prayer and quoted this scripture but took a different approach to it. Out of the many things he said, one thing sticked to my heart, he said "a true worshipper is not a singer, but all who worship God with a pure heart, also in Spirit and in truth. This kept me thinking all through even as I try to shift from my formal thought as a worship leader, but this is the truth I wanted to hear and it have changed my thought ...

The song we sing

Image
"The song we sing, They all belongs to you. " This words are lyrics from "Damita Haddon's" song "It all belongs to you". John 6:63b NIV ...the words I have spoken to you, they are full of the Spirit and life. Jesus'words bring to mind this question, Do we really understand the words in the song when we sing? I've been in the music ministry for a while and I have seen a lot of things and I can say for free that some person's truly don't  understand the songs they sing that's the reason we're having lots of emotional singers singing to emotional people. To this effect we see little or no result of the manifestation of God when we gather in our worship meetings (concert), church services etc. We fail to understand that the songs we sing are spirit and also life. John 1:1NIV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. We don't just sing melodies or ...

The Music Director/Choir Members

Image
BENEFITS OF HAVING A GOOD MUSIC DIRECTOR 1. They are willing to correct you when you make mistakes. 2. They push you beyond your limit even when you're angry. 3. They console you and also shout at you when you misbehave, this is because they want the best out of you, not  hatred as some do think. 4. They take the blame of your mistakes from the audience after a ministration. 5. They pray for you while you're on stage so you don't misbehave. 6. They know you better musically (your abilities, weaknesses, potential etc), that's why they get angry when you reject any responsibility given to you, this is because they know you can do it. N/B: If this qualities are not traceable to your music director, pray for him but he might also be doing other good things not mention here. CHOIR MEMBERS DUTIES 1. Always pray for your music director. N/B: What they go through, they will not tell you because they have your interest at heart. 2. Support them all ...
